The Seventh Gift

“The seventh gift is talent.” We all have a different set of talents, kind of like how we all have a different set of facial features. Some are obvious like a large nose, or that you managed to get the first-place art award three years in a row. Others are subtler, like the small flecks of gold in your brown eyes, or that you have a knack for song writing. Some talents may surprise you because they are the ones that you didn’t know you had until a moment of need arose, kind of like this situation that befell me last summer:

l was doing some painting when l saw this flower, l was inspired to paint it (usually I’m not very good). That painting is now one of my best. God gives each of us this skill set so that we can overcome the challenges that life throws our way. So just remember when your wishing that you had a different or “better” set of talents that God hand picked every one of your talents.
Come to think of it, talents are also like seeds, pure potential. Also, some take time to cultivate. God gives us the talent, all He asks in return is that we use it.
But no matter if you have a knack for gardening or sword fighting, painting or poetry, whether your nose is long, or your eyes are grey, my hope for you this Christmas is (in the words of Charlene Costanzo) “May you discover your own special abilities and contribute them to a better world.”
